The NFL professional football team San Francisco 49ers are based out of San Francisco, California. They are a member of the National Football Conference's Western Division. The home games of the 49ers are played at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. The club's practice facility and headquarters are in Santa Clara, CA at Marie P. DeBartolo Sports Centre.

The 49ers started play in 1946. They were an All-America Football Conference charter member. In 1950 the team became a member of the NFL following the AAFC-NFL merger.

The 49ers have won five Super Bowls, second behind the Pittsburgh Steelers' six wins. The team has also won five league titles. During the 1980s-early 1990s, the 49ers dominated the NFL, winning their five Super Bowls during that time span. For 16 seasons in a row the 49ers won at least 10 games.
