The NFL professional football team San Diego Chargers are based out of San Diego, California. The team is an American Football Conference member in the Western Division. The Chargers were an American Football League charger member and started play in 1960. The first season for the team was spent in Los Angeles. In 1961, they relocated to San Diego. The home games for the Chargers are played in Qualcomm Stadium.

In 1963, the Chargers won the AFL title. Five times they made it into the AFL playoffs and four times to the AFL Championship game. In 1970, they joined the NFL during the AFL-NFL merger. The Chargers, in 34 years since the merger, have had ten playoff appearances and played in four AFC Championship games. The Chargers appeared in Super Bowl XXIX but were defeated 49-26 by the San Francisco 49ers.
