The NFL professional football team Philadelphia Eagles are based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The team is a National Football Conference member playing in the East Division.

In 1933, the Philadelphia Eagles were established to replace the Frankford Yellow Jackets who went bankrupt. A syndicate headed by Bert Bell, future NFL commissioner, purchased the Philadelphia franchise rights from the NFL. The Blue Eagle served as the inspiration for the Eagles name, which was a symbol for stimulus programs that were part of the New Deal initiated to help combat the Great Depression.

The Eagles have appeared in two Super Bowls and won the NFL title three times. They lost both of the Super Bowls they have played in. In 1980 they were defeated by the Oakland Raiders. In 2004, the New England Patriots beat them.
