The NFL professional football team New Orleans Saints are based out of New Orleans, Louisiana. The Saints play in the National Fooball League's South Division. The team plays their home games at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. Their headquarters are in Metairie, Louisiana.

The Saints were established in 1966 and entered the NFL as one of their expansion teams. The home games for the Saints were played at Tulane Stadium prior to the 1975 season. They played for over a decade before managing a .500 season and went two decades before managing their first winning season and four decades before the team made it to the Super Bowl.

The first string of successful seasons for the Saints were in the period 1987-1992. The Saints had four playoff appearances during this time. The Saints got their first playoff win in 2000 when they defeated the St. Louis Rams, defending Super Bowl champions. The New Orleans Saints defeated the Indianapolis Colts to win Super Bowl XLIV following the 2009 season.
