miami dolphins History

The professional NFL football team Miami Dolphins are based out of Miami, Florida and play their home games in Miami Gardens, FL in Sun Life Stadium. The Dolphins training facility and headquarters is in Davie, Florida. Miami is a member of the American Football Conference's Eastern Division. Joseph Robbie founded the Dolphins and they started play in 1966 as an American Football League expansion team. When the AFL and NFL merged, the Dolphins became part of the National Football League.

The Dolphins first appeared in the Super Bowl after the 1971 season. The Dallas Cowboys defeated them to win Super Bowl VI. In 1972, Miami had a perfect season, the first and only one that has ever been accomplished in the NFL. They won all 14 of their regular season games and then won two playoff games before winning Super Bowl VII. The Miami Dolphins were also the Super Bowl VIII winners, and were the first NFL team to appear in the Super Bowl three years in a row and second team to win championships back to back. Miami played in Super Bowl XVII and XIX as well, but lost both games.
