The NFL professional football team Cleveland Browns are based out of Cleveland, Ohio. They are an American Football Conference member in the North Division. The team's first season was in 1946. They were an All American Football Conference (AAFC) charter member. In 1950, the team joined the NFL when the AAFC folded.

Cleveland has won eight league championships. The team won all four of the AAFC's title games. In 1948 the team went undefeated with a record of 15-0. They won four more championships after becoming a member of the NFL before the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. The Browns, after the merger, became one of three teams from the NFL to join ten former teams from the AFL to form the American Football conference.

Since the merger the Browns haven't appeared in any league championship games, despite the fact that the team's winning percentage is the sixth highest in NFL franchise history. They lost three AFC Championship games and two Super Bowl era NFL Championship Games in 1968 as well as 1969. The Cleveland Browns are one of only four teams in the NFL to never appear in the Super Bowl. Cleveland has also never been a Super Bowl host, making Cleveland the only city in the NFL to neither have played in or hosted a Super Bowl game.
