The NFL professional football team Atlanta Falcons are based out of Atlanta, Georgia. The team plays in the National Football Conference's South Division. Their home games are played in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia and the franchise headquarters are located in Flowery Branch, GA.

In 1965, the Falcons became a member of the NFL as one of their expansion teams. The NFL offered a franchise to owner Rankin Smith so that he wouldn't join the American Football League, the rival of the NFL.

Atlanta has an overall 275-400-6 record in their 43 year history. The Atlanta Falcons have won three division championships (1980, 1998, 2004) and in 1999 appeared in Super Bowl XXXIII where they lost to the Denver Broncos by a score of 34-19.
