alabama crimson tide History

The University of Alabama's football program, the Alabama Crimson Tide, is currently a member of the NCAA's Southeastern Conference in their Football Bowl Subdivision. The Crimson Tide program is one of college football's most decorated and storied programs in the history of the NCAA. The football program, since starting play in 1892, has won a total of 13 national championships. Their eight national titles in the Coaches/AP wire poll era, ties them for most titles with Notre Dame. From 1958-1082 the team was coached by Hall of Famer Paul "Bear" Bryant. Under his coaching leadership, the Crimson Tide won a total of six national championship. Despite the program's multiple conference and national championships, there were no Heisman Trophy winners from the University of Alabama until Mark Ingram, Crimson Tide running back, became the program's first winner in 2009.

Alabama has 802 NCAA Division wins and won a total of 26 conference championships (22 SEC and 4 Southern Conference championships), and has appeared in 50 postseason bowls, which is an NCAA record. Other NCAA records held by the Crimson Tide include 22 ten game winning streaks along with 16 seasons where they started 10-0. Other NCAA records include their 33 bowl wins and thirty 10 win seasons. Alabama's seven division titles along with their seven SEC Championship Game appearances leads their SEC West Division. Alabama has a winning record versus every former and current SEC school. Currently the Associated Press has Alabama ranked in 5th place all-time with 47 appearances on the final AP Poll.

Currently, Alabama's home games are played at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on the University of Alabama campus. Bryant-Denny has a 101,821 seating capacity making it the world's 7th biggest non-racing stadium and fifth biggest U.S. stadium.
